Book excerpt: In The Telling Wall, the sequel to Leone Mary Britt's first novel An Inch of Love, An Inch of Ashes, the main character Calinda Carruthers continues on her troubled little sojourn through time. Among other things, she tries to change her life by doing a self awareness course which end up disgusting her. She seeks solace in other people's opinions, which confuse her even more. Her daughter Diana is diagnosed with a mental illness and things look grim. One of her great comforts is the graffiti on a wall that she passes every time she takes the bus, and this eventually becomes her avenue of redemption. Things gradually change for her as she struggles to help her daughter, and to find some peace amid the chaos. When circumstances teach her to fight she is eventually forced, by her need to make things right, to confront the most powerful members of society to reclaim her own power.
